Know a few things about Lombok

By: Alex Albert

Located towards the east of Bali, Lombok is gaining immense popularity in the recent times because of its pristine beauty. Unlike Bali, this land with its unspoiled beaches and undisrupted beauty is serving as an alternate destination for tourists these days. Though this lovely place lures tourists with its utmost beauty, it is much quiet in terms of nightlife and evening activities.

This aspect makes the city popular amongst peace seeking travelers, whereas party freaks find it disappointing. This is one of the reasons why this pristine land is becoming increasingly popular amongst honeymooners. The weather here is tropical, hot, humid and dry, which is why tourists mostly prefer to visit this place during rainy season from October to December. This season appeals travelers because in Lombok it rarely rains for more than an hour. The peak tourist season, though, is from May to August.

Though tourism here is not as great as some of the other places of Indonesia, tourists mainly throng to this place because of its water sports such as diving, snorkeling, surfing and sailing. Hiking is also popular here. Another thing that charms tourists is the enthralling culture of this land. Few attractions of Lombok include beautiful beaches, a large volcano and scenic views. Some of the interesting places that can be visited here include Tanjung Aan, a beautiful area near Kuta Beach. This place is popular for its unique sand that looks like pepper.

Desa village in Sukarare is another place to visit. Here you can see the local handicrafts and weaving process and buy some memorable souvenir at a cheap price. Narmada Park is another attraction to see. This park has a Hindu temple and a swimming pool. There is also a fountain here called 'Youth Fountain', which is believed to give long life to a person who drinks its water. A visit to Lombok would be a waste, if you don't undergo a traditional message therapy. There are various centers offering massage services, which you can't miss during your sojourn. This city offers great wine and dining option for its guests at its restaurants.

Lombok's only airport is Mataram's Selaparang Airport, which connects this city with destinations like Denpasar, the capital of Bali, Surabaya, Jakarta and other cities. As far as international flights are concerned, they are limited to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. There are daily flights to KL, whereas Singapore is connected with three flights a week. Besides flights, there are regular slow boat service and fast ferries that run between Lombok and Bali. The slow boats take about 4-5 hours, whereas the fast ferries hardly takes 2 hours to reach. Getting around in Lombok is easy as the city facilitates a wide option of transportation within the city including Bemo's - passenger carrying mini-van, taxis, horse carts, boats, or bicycles.

The guests who arrive at this city can stay at any of the multitude hotels in Lombok during their vacation. There are several good lodging options here including hotels, lodges, backpacker accommodations, and resorts etc. There are several luxury hotels with modern amenities that serve guests with genuine friendliness, warm welcome and great hospitality. Besides, the budget travelers can stay at the various cheap hotels and resorts that offer necessary amenities to the discerning travelers.
